NATIONAL TAP DANCE DAY FESTIVAL
Celebrated each year on May 25th in honor of the late Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, National Tap Dance Day is the celebration of tap dance as an American art form. Born May 25th, 1878, Bill Robinson was the most highly paid African American tap dancer of the first half of the twentieth century. His contribution to tap was very specific, he brought it up on the balls of the feet giving it a clear, light sound and upright, swinging rhythm. His contribution to the form is significant. Previous celebrations have taken place at Skidmore College & The National Museum of Dance with guest artists such as Brenda Bufalino, Stefanie Lynx Weber and Clare O'Donnell. Stay tuned for this years event!
TAP & JAZZ DANCE
Rooted in African dance along with Scottish, Irish & English clogging, jazz tap dance is an American indigenous art form that is as much dance as it is music. Jazz Tap dancers consider themselves part of the jazz tradition. Saratoga Jazz Tap offers education in both tap & jazz dance forms, training the dancer technically and musically, facilitating their growth as both dancer and musician.
One on one tutoring for the serious student who desires to advance very quickly. Private mentoring allows the dancer, whether beginner or advanced, to have complete focused attention allowing for quick progression. This is also ideal for the dancer or musical theatre student/professional to assist in preparation for auditions.
Jazz, tap & musical theatre repertoire are created for community theatre, dance companies, dance schools and college auditions.
Master Classes in the jazz tap idiom are available at your educational institution. Classes can provide traditional works from the masters or modern repertoire along with history of the form.
